The Orange Park and Flemming Island areas are south and southwest of the 295 loop, the two major thoroughfares are Highway 17 also know as Roosevelt Blvd and Highway 21 know as Blanding Blvd. Orange Park and Flemming Island are suburbs of Jacksonville and are primarily located in Clay County.
NAS Jacksonville is just to the North of Orange Park so you'll find many current and ex-military in the area who are proud to call this area home. A major draw for residents is the number of highly rated Clay County schools. The Orange Park Mall is one of the major shopping destinations for the area, here you can also enjoy a movie at the AMC Theater which is attached to the Mall along with many dining options close by.
Once you pass Orange Park heading south on Highway 17 you will find yourself in Flemming Island which is home to posh golfing course centered neighborhoods such as Eagle Harbor and Fleming Island Plantation. The area has been dubbed by some as the "Ponte Vedra of Clay County" and over the past decade has enjoyed explosive growth both residentially and commercially. What was once a sleepy rural area has become a destination for shopping, food and fun.
While Fleming Island is growing, it's still a fairly quiet community and most nights everything is closed by 11. Night owls can find something to do if they look hard enough, food, drinks, and live music can be enjoyed at Mellow Mushroom or Whitey's Fish Camp, and Sports fans will enjoy local bars like Box Seats and Hurricane Grill and Wings.
Major chains and big-box stores are commonplace in most suburban communities and Fleming Island and Orange park are no exception. There are some exceptional locally-owned retail locations to check out including Grassroots Natural Market which sells organic & healthy snacks, dietary supplements & homeopathic remedies. Peterbrooke Chocolatier offers a tempting selection of goodies. Pick up a new bike at Open Road Bicycles and hit Black Creek Trail, approximately 7 miles long and mostly shaded, making it ideal for biking, running, or a casual stroll. Boating is a big part of life on the First Coast and folks on Fleming Island love it too.
