As a student in today's world, you are largely dependent on having Internet access at all times. It makes sense then that whichever of the apartments near UNF that you choose, you will want to live somewhere that provides a stable, fast connection. No matter where you live however, having a good connection isn't always guaranteed.
Things can go wrong, and although we don't really think about it, the one time that you lose Internet connection during an assignment or quiz can be an overwhelming experience. So when and if this happens, how can you go about getting reconnected as fast as possible? The answer to this question will most likely depend on which of the UNF apartments you are in.
In this article I am going to focus on the most basic setup, a modem to router connection. These basic steps can however help people that are directly connected to either their modem or router. With this knowledge, you may be able to do something if your Internet goes down, or if it is just acting extremely slow.
If you Internet goes down but you still are connected to your router, than the first place you should go to is your modem. Turn off the router and disconnect it from the modem, and then turn the modem off for a period of at least one minute. When you turn the modem back on, wait for all the lights to stop blinking and remain solid. If you can, you should try plugging your computer directly into your modem, just to make sure that there is no issue with the Ethernet cable running to the router.
If you have no Internet connection when you are directly connected to your modem, you can either try resetting it again, or contacting someone at the apartment complex. You may also contact whoever is providing the cable to see what is going on. If you have a good connection, then you can reconnect your router to your modem and turn it on.
Now, if your Internet is just acting extremely slow, you should connect your computer directly to your modem. If you Internet is extremely fast then it is a router issue, and if it is slow then it is a modem issue. If the issue is with the modem, then try resetting it or talking to the cable provider. If the issue is a router issue, then there are several things you may want to look at.
One of the first things to do when your router is giving off a weak signal is to disconnect as many devices in your UNF apartment as you can. Devices taxing your router may include phones, tablets, laptops, and even some televisions. Cheaper routers can only manage several devices, while more expensive ones can withstand more. If your Internet speed improves drastically with only one device connected, then you will need to find your router's threshold, and maybe buy a newer one if it is too little.
If disconnecting devices does not help with your situation, then you will want to look into altering the routers settings. This may include changing the channel of the router, or even updated its software. This is a little more complicated, but can easily be learned with a simple Internet search. Don't worry about messing anything up, as you can easily restore your router to default settings.
Whichever of the UNF apartments you going to be living in, I hope that this little bit of knowledge becomes useful. Although I can't guarantee that any of this will save you in a bad situation, it always good to have a basic understanding, especially since the Internet is so important. The only true way to avoid a bad situation is just to do your assignments early in case something does go wrong.
